Class of 2015
I am a conceptual mixed media artist. My artwork making process starts off with an idea that becomes
very methodical. The source material for my concepts are very personal and derive from lived
experiences as a Mexican-born-queer-white person. I use recognizable objects in our culture and re-
contextualize them to create iconography that criticizes this country’s history by using ceramics, spray
paint, wood, glass, performance, video, and text. Its important for the materials and size to inform my
work as materials have social histories and size confronts the viewers perception of placement;
metaphorical and/or physical.
